Faith is not dumb, it won’t go against what we learn about what’s logical. Faith is not irrational, but it is suprarational. Faith is in a place where reason cannot reach. Because reason alone isn’t enough to bring meaning to the human heart; it needs faith around the edges (…). So I ask God for faith in Him, to make me stop looking for meaning on my own logic and thoughts and rest on His thoughts.
Marcos Botelho
You can get up behind a pulpit and yell at people all day, but if you show them Jesus, they’ll meet Jesus. You read the stories in Acts about what the Apostles did. As I was reading in one passage the other day, they would just show up and one of them mentioned, ‘Have you been baptized in the Spirit?’ and ‘Do you follow Jesus?’ and people just began to weep and meet God. I think we’ve got it all wrong in a lot of ways. We start introducing people to our agenda as opposed to introducing people to Christ. That’s backwards.

The essence of sin is man substituting himself for God, while the essence of salvation is God substituting himself for man.
John Stott (via itstimetoletlovein)
When we stress that faith ought to be certain and secure, we do not have in mind a certainty without doubt, or a security with any anxiety. Rather, we affirm that believers have a perpetual struggle with their own lack of faith, and are far from possessing a peaceful conscience, never interrupted by any disturbance. On the other hand, we want to deny that they may fall out of, or depart from, their confidence in the divine mercy, no matter how much they may be troubled.
John Calvin (about faith and doubt)
